6 Fun Halloween Crafts & Treats for Kids

Halloween is a fantastic time for kids to have a bit of fun and let their imaginations run free. With all sorts of interesting crafts, recipes and creepy characters to choose from, the only limit to an activity is their creativity. If you’re looking for something entertaining to do with the kids this week, then give these six fun craft and treat ideas a try!

Halloween Crafts

From cardboard mummies to paper pumpkins, here are some fabulously spooky and easy Halloween craft ideas.

  • Cardboard Mummies

You won’t need a ton of supplies to make this mummy, and most of them may already be inside your craft drawer. To get the mummy shape, simply outline the shape of a gingerbread man cookie cutter onto a thin piece of cardboard (like a cereal box) and cut it with scissors. Then paint both sides and allow to dry before adding the googly eyes and paper bandage tape. Get the full tutorial here.

  • Halloween Story Stones

These Halloween story stones will provide hours of entertainment! Start by painting Halloween-themed pictures on the stones. To make things easier, you could also use some stickers or colourful permanent markers. Let your child choose a stone from the bag and ask them to start telling a story based on the picture they see. Then let them choose other stones from the bag one by one, adding to their story as they go along.

  • Paper Pumpkins

For a fun kids’ craft that can double up as a cute Halloween decoration, look no further than these paper pumpkins. Made from cardstock with different colours and patterns, you can tailor them to any theme or colour scheme you prefer. Older children should be able to complete the entire craft by themselves, while younger children may need a bit more assistance. Either way, this is a quick project with a very pretty result.

Halloween Treats

Looking to make some easy yet tasty Halloween treats? The great thing about these ideas is that they all stem from simple, classic recipes. The decorations are what give them a fun, Halloween twist.

  • Spider Cookies

These spider cookies are almost as creepy as they are cute, and they taste great too! The recipe makes 20-25 small sugar cookies, topped with chocolate and fondant to look like little spiders. Simple but super effective!

  • Ghost Cupcakes

With these ghoulish cupcakes, you’ll have to watch what you’re eating in case they’re watching you… The ghosts themselves are a lot easier to make than you’d expect, all that’s needed is a drizzle of icing and marshmallows dabbed with melted chocolate. Get the full recipe here.

  • Toffee Apples

Sticky, sinister and sweet – it’s no wonder Toffee Apples are a firm Halloween favourite. Our version includes a buttery toffee syrup with hazelnuts, but let the kids express their creativity by decorating with other toppings of their choosing. We also love these toffee apples coated with different coloured syrup (think black for ‘poison’ or red for ‘blood’).
