10 Ways to Spoil Mom on Mother’s Day

We love our mums and, let’s be honest, where would we be without them?

From long hugs on difficult days, favourite dinners and delicious baked good for no reason and so much more! The older you get, the more you realise how much of a superhero your mom actually is.

So how does one begin to spoil the person that has given so much and deserves double that back? One small gesture at a time – like Mother’s Day!

If you need some help, we have put together 10 ways to spoil your mom this Mother’s Day.

1. Breakfast in Bed

Remember those cold winter mornings before school when mum would poke her head into your room with a hot bowl of porridge and a heartwarming cup of tea? Those mornings were the best!

So why not return the favour this Mother’s Day?

Surprise mum with some brekkie in bed – fresh coffee or tea, some scrambled egg on toast with slathers of Kerrygold butter, some flowers and a handwritten note.

Mom is sure to appreciate the grand gesture and will cherish the card – you can check back in a few months and you might even find some of the flower petals inside!

2. At-Home Spa Treatments

What better way to spoil your mom than with an at-home spa treatment?

Face masks, home mani-pedi’s, a foot massage or even just a warm drawn bath with incense, candles, a glass of red wine and her favourite book is sure to be appreciated.

There’s always the option of taking mom to a spa in town but some home treatments with some one-on-one time with her child or children is definitely going to be one to go down in the mom-history book.

3. Buy Something She Won’t Buy Herself

How many times have you walked through the mall with your mom that she will admire jewellery, handbags, creams, shoes or perfumes but never actually buys them for herself?

Moms enjoy spoiling their children before spoiling themselves so think back to the last mall trip you took with your mom and go buy one of those items that she put back on the rack.

Not only is she guaranteed to love the item but she will also appreciate that you remembered what she liked.

4. Clean the House

There is nothing that we all hate more than chores! Life is busy and between work and errands, there is little time left for socialising or maintaining the intricate balance between a warzone and a livable home.

Spare your mom some grey hairs by grabbing the broom, mop, polish and vacuum and give the house a good clean! After all, how many times did she clean your bedroom for your growing up?

5. Dinner is Served

Spare your mom from the heat of the kitchen this Mother’s Day by taking her out for dinner somewhere special. Or – if you’re feeling up to the challenge – you can cook mom a homemade meal for her to enjoy at home!

Eating out is nice but nothing shows you care more than a home-cooked meal. If you are short on dinner ideas, you can visit our website and browse our recipes filled with main courses and desserts for some yummy inspiration.

6. A Box of Memories

Remember the first time that you went to the zoo? What about your first day of school? Or your university graduation? Mom definitely got some great snapshots of those memories!

Sift through some old photo albums, dig through the box with old school projects or some childhood artwork and place them in a memory box. Going through the box with your mom on Mother’s Day is sure to surface some great memories and laughs!

7. Movie Time

You know that movie or series that your mom has been texting you about and tagging you in countless social media posts?

Make Mother’s Day the day to finally explore some of these new movies or series that have piqued mumsie’s interest. Bring over mom’s favourite snacks, wear comfy tracksuit pants or pyjamas and let mom take control of the remote for a change!

If you’re looking for an easy movie snack, try our Kerrygold flatbread with cheddar, apples and bacon – yum!

8. The Errand Runner

If we know how mums are, then we guarantee that your mom has a planner somewhere with a list of errands that need running!

Whether it’s taking the dog to the parlour, picking up some fresh produce from the local market or checking some library books back in at the library, there is definitely some errands that you can help take off of mom’s hands this Mother’s Day.

And if mom doesn’t want to oblige you can always just accompany her on her errand trip – maybe squeeze in a cup of coffee and cake at a coffee shop while you’re out!

9. Take a Walk in Nature

Grab mom, pack a simple picnic basket and head out to the park, beach or a hiking trail and spend some time together in nature this Mother’s Day. Sometimes the greatest gift that we can give someone is time together.

Chat about your week, let her offer you some advice (mom’s love that) or simply talk about your plans for the future. Parents love to be a part of your life and if you let your mom know what your plans are she will learn how to be a part of them.

10. A Furry Friend

If you and your siblings are already out of the house you will find that mom can get quite lonesome.

From rushed days of work, school pick-ups, driving to and from extra murals and all the other accompaniments of motherhood it can become rather quiet once all the birds have left the nest.

Head to the local SPCA and pick out the perfect puppy or a curious kitten to gift to mom this Mother’s Day. Fish and birds are also excellent companions if mom would prefer a lower-maintenance pet.
