Kerrygold South Africa brings you the delicious taste of Irish butter and cheese from the lush green meadows of Ireland. Our story is a simple one which involves us working with small co-operative farms where small herds of cow’s graze freely on the lush Irish meadows.
The much-loved brand of Kerrygold is owned by Ornua, previously the Irish Dairy Board, a co-operative enterprise itself, established in 1961 and is owned by Irish dairy processing co-ops and through them Irish dairy farmers. Generations of dairy farmers have supplied milk for the Kerrygold brand and our Kerrygold dairy farmers are committed to the co-operative ideal, working together to produce only the very best dairy products. Kerrygold butter was first launched in 1962 and today the Irish Dairy Board is Ireland’s largest exporter of premium dairy products, with a marketing footprint that extends to over 90 countries.
Ireland also boasts a long heritage of dairy farming, dating back some six thousand years. The unspoilt environment and this expertise make Ireland unparalleled when it comes to dairy production.
