Cooking Tips from 5 Amazing Female Foodies

It’s Women’s Month and it would be a serious missed opportunity if we did not take the time to share the cooking advice of some local and international female foodies who have captured our hearts (and stomachs) with their dangerously delicious recipes for cooking and baking alike.

As we’re sure you will agree, cooking and baking is about much more than just putting food on the table or satisfying that never-ending sweet tooth. Spending time in the kitchen is cathartic and gives you the space to express yourself in a different artistic manner.

And these five lovely foodies will definitely agree.

1. Clodagh McKenna

Clodagh is an Irish chef and author of numerous cookbooks. Not only is she a big fan of Kerrygold’s butter (we had to brag) but she has also created some delicious recipes for Kerrygold in the past.

She is currently a chef on the This Morning show.

Clodagh explained in an interview with Express.co.uk that one of the things she is frequently asked on social media and on the show is about the amount of time it takes to prepare her dishes.

After some evaluation, Clodagh has released a cookbook with recipes categorised into 10-minute, 20-minute and 30-minute meals so that you can spend less time cooking and more time doing what you enjoy doing.

Her biggest cooking tip is: “Have a really well-stocked cupboard.”

The last thing that you want is to be cooking and realise that you are missing an important ingredient.

2. The Lazy Makoti

Seshoene Mogau, or as everyone knows her, the Lazy Makoti took South Africa by storm with her cookbook that includes simple and straightforward recipes that are perfect for the modern South African, specifically “the lazy daughter-in-law”.

The Lazy Makoti cookbook serves as the answer to inexperienced cooks who are intimidated by the kitchen and covers all the traditional recipes that a cook should know.

For Seshoene the kitchen is a place of solace and comfort and she would like to teach others to view the kitchen with the same type of love by knowing how to prepare simple, essential dishes with ease.

Her biggest cooking tip is: “Find easy recipes and learn how to master them. Switch them up for some variety.”

She goes on to explain how important it is to learn how to ‘recycle’ leftovers to prevent food wastage in the home.

3. Drizzle & Dip

Sam Linsell is a professional food stylist, recipe developer and food photographer and is best known for her delicious savoury and sweet recipes. Sam makes it her goal to “hunt down the delicious things in life” and we are so glad that she does!

Her social channels are filled with a variety of exotic and simple foods that can be enjoyed by novice and experienced cooks alike providing the opportunity to experiment with a variety of different dishes.

Her biggest cooking tip is: “The only way to become better at something is to practice and then practice some more.”

She goes on to explain that it is only through mistakes that we can learn the most.

4. Nigella Lawson

Nigella is an English food writer and television cook having published numerous cookbooks and featured on various cooking shows to show off her culinary prowess with her delicious homemade meals.

Her love for food is genuine as she explained in an interview with Forbes saying “I eat and I like thinking about food, I write about food and I like cooking” making Nigella a lady after our own hearts and tummies!

Her biggest cooking tip is: “taste as you cook”!

She goes on to explain that even if you follow recipes completely there is always the off chance that you won’t enjoy the way the recipe is prepared. By tasting and adding your own seasoning, you can ensure that the food is made to your liking.

5. Martha Stewart

Martha Stewart is an American retail businesswoman, writer and television personality but is most likely best-known to foodies such as ourselves as an excellent chef with her most recent undertaking been a cooking show alongside rapper Snoop Dogg.

No one knows how to entertain and cook like Martha does sharing mouthwatering recipes on her social feeds for all the enjoy and take inspiration from and replicate in their own kitchens at home.

Her biggest cooking tip is: “cook in batches”!

Apart from Martha’s firm belief in slow cookers, she also believes that if you are cooking there is no point in only cooking for one sitting. Make more than what you need and freeze the food for your next meal.
