5 Home Date Night Ideas

With the lockdown in place, and being forced to spend more time at home, the conventional “date night” has taken a back seat leaving little room for traditional dates.
But, just because you are not up to going to the movies, visiting a fancy restaurant or going ice skating, does not mean that your date nights have to end. All that you need is a little bit of creativity and a push in the right direction.
This is why we have put together 5 home date night ideas that you and your significant other are sure to enjoy and speak about for years to come!
1. It’s Game Night
When last do you remember sitting down to play a board game? For most of us, board games are little more than a childhood memory and most of us haven’t touched one since then. But with lockdown and, if we’re being completely honest, load shedding, board games can bring you much entertainment!
There are dozens of different board games to choose from simple mystery games like Cluedo to role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. If you’re looking for something simpler to start with, you cannot go wrong with UNO or even a standard deck of cards.
Surprise your significant other with a night of board games, snacks and laughs. Sometimes quality time together is all you need to have a great date!
2. For the Netflix Lovers
Yes, Netflix is definitely one that would not be left off of this date night list. For most of us, Netflix and its binge-worthy shows have become the bread and butter of entertainment during the lockdown.
But if you’re planning a date night, maybe the usual re-run of Friends or How I Met Your Mother is better put-off for tomorrow.
Order some takeaway, get cosied up on the couch in your favourite gowns or with your favourite blanket and head to the “Top 10 in South African Today” or “New on Netflix” tab and choose something that neither of you has seen!
Who knows, maybe you find a new binge-worthy series you can start watching?
3. Your own Home Kitchen
Just because you do not feel up to visiting a restaurant out in the town, does not mean that you cannot turn your very own kitchen into a five-star restaurant for the evening?
Set a table with candles, flowers and the whole shebang! You can even make a custom menu to present to your significant other so that they can choose the meal for the evening or – if you want to get ahead on cooking – you can present a Chef’s Choice menu telling your SO what they can expect on the menu this evening.
Plan your dinner from starter to dessert and enjoy an evening of delicious food, great conversation and some well-deserved time together.
For a twist, you can even take this dinner outside for an evening under the stars – super romantic!
4. Couple Essentials Evening
Is your SO feeling a bit stressed out, anxious or down-right tired? It can be difficult to put on a brave face every day considering the current reality. Sometimes all we need is a little me-time or, in this case, couple-time.
Haul out the mani/pedi kit, download a recipe for a facial mask, get the essential oils or your favourite body cream out – you’re hosting your very own home-spa evening!
Relaxing music, some aromatic sandalwood incense and candlelight – the perfect relaxing evening to get your mind off of everything.
Maybe do some experimentation with yoga if you haven’t tried it before – rest and recovery evenings are all about relaxation!
5. Karaoke Night
Remember those nights out with friends singing karaoke into the early hours of the morning? While you might want to forget some of those embarrassing memories, maybe a date night at home is the perfect time to reminisce!
There are tons of karaoke videos on YouTube or, if you’re feeling super reminiscent, haul out the old Singstar and give that a go! There are versions available from old consoles to new and make for an incredibly fun home-jam session.
Grab some snacks, choose a song and sing your heart out! This is the perfect time to make some new, unforgettable memories.
