2015 NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Award winner to host Teagasc Farm Walk on June 17th

The search has begun for Ireland’s top dairy farmers and nominations have been received across the Republic of Ireland to discover who has what it takes to become Ireland’s top dairy farmer and win the 2016 NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards. These awards are an opportunity to reward Irish farmers for the pride, passion, commitment to standards and attention to detail that yields the highest quality milk, used to produce the best tasting Irish dairy products enjoyed worldwide like Ireland’s own Kerrygold.

Each year, detailed technical data about each farm is scrutinised by the expert national judging panel consisting of Professor Patrick Wall (Associate Professor of Public Health at UCD), Dr David Gleeson (Milk Quality Research, Teagasc) and Dr. Jack Kennedy (Dairy Editor, Irish Farmers Journal). This panel assesses milk quality records for over twelve months along with information about milking practices and facilities, care of the environment, sustainable practices, dairy herd health, animal welfare and general farm management. All finalists also undergo on-farm inspection as part of the assessment process. This year’s finalists will be announced during the summer with the NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards perpetual trophy being presented at a national awards ceremony in October.
