8 Great Ways to get into the Holiday Spirit

As the holiday season draws nearer many might be finding it difficult to get into the holiday spirit.

It’s been an exhausting year and, with the ‘new norm’ being somewhat out of sorts, it can be a bit more difficult to be as excited for the festive season as what it was in the past. But you are not a lost cause or a scrooge, there are many people that are facing the exact same dilemma!

This is why we have put together some great ways for you to get back into the holiday spirit and to enjoy the holiday season.

Here are 8 great ways to get into the holiday spirit:

1. Do Some Holiday Baking

The best part of the holidays for many people is all of the festive foods and treats so what better way to get into the holiday spirit than to do some Christmas baking?

Whether you love puddings, cookies or pies there is really no way to go wrong enjoying some festive baking. And this is also a great way to spend some time together as a family so grab the kids and your recipe book and search for your favourite festive recipes.

Remember to stock up on your Kerrygold butter too!

2. Christmas Movie Marathon

With Netflix, Amazon Prime and all the array of streaming channels at our disposal, there has never been an easier (and more convenient) way to catch up on holiday movies than now.

Even if the holidays are still a few weeks away, nothing is stopping you from adding your favourites to the watch list or just watching one or two before the time!

Make some popcorn or grab your festive cookies from the kitchen and binge some of your favourite Christmas movies to get you into the holiday spirit.

3. Get your Decorating Done

Who said that you cannot put your Christmas decorations up already? Get the ladder, take down all the boxes and dust off the tree because it is time to turn your home into a Christmas extravaganza!

This is also a great way to find out what decorations are missing or to buy a new set of Christmas lights if the old ones have fused. Plus who doesn’t love walking down the Christmas aisle in the supermarket?

And – don’t stop with just the inside – go ahead and decorate the garden too. This will help put your neighbours in the festive spirit too!

4. Write a Christmas Wish List

With all your Christmas planning underway, it is very easy to forget to think about what it is that you want for Christmas. Grab a pen and paper, head to your favourite online store and start jotting down some ideas.

In fact, get the whole family on board and turn it into a fun Christmas project!

Everyone can stick their list up in the house so that everyone can gather ideas for their Christmas shopping.

5. Build a Gingerbread House

Nothing quite says “Christmas” the same way as what a Gingerbread House does. They are super yummy to eat and even more fun to decorate as a family.

The good news is that we have a step-by-step guide that you can check out to learn exactly how to bake and decorate your very own gingerbread house.

Be sure to snap some photos of your adorable gingerbread houses!

6. Start a New Family Tradition

Every family has their own way that they celebrate Christmas and, while you may be used to your current traditions, it might be fun to discover and start some new ones. Sit together as a family and brainstorm some ideas for new Christmas traditions.

From simple ideas like making turkey instead of gammon to more fun activities like family rugby or arm-wrestling match!

Go ahead and come up with some fun ways to make Christmas more special in your household.

7. Listen to Holiday Music

By now you should already be hearing the cheery Christmas jingles at the malls and supermarkets but that does not mean that you cannot tune in to some Christmas tunes right at home.

Queue up a Christmas playlist on YouTube or Spotify and get yourself into the holiday mood with some festive music. Make the playlist accessible to all family members to add their own Christmas favourites to the list.

8. Go Christmas Shopping – and Wrapping

And, if all else fails, there is no better way to put yourself in the Christmas mood than to do Christmas shopping. There’s just something special about buying gifts for friends and family that draws out the Christmas spirit during the festive season.

If you have already set out the Christmas tree, then you can go ahead and start wrapping the gifts and placing them under the tree. Not only will this bring that special Christmas feeling into your house, but it is also a great time-saver.
