10 Things to Do with Dad this Father’s Day
Dads: a son’s first role model, a daughter’s first love and everyone’s hero!
With just over a week left until Father’s Day, it’s time to crunch down and decide how you are going to spend this special day with dad.
Every dad is different which is why we have put together some varying activities for the home-dad, the outdoorsy-dad and the handy-dad.
No matter what type of dad you have, he is sure to love spending some quality time with you this Father’s Day irrespective of the type of activity you choose.
Here are 10 things to do with dad this Father’s Day:
1. Daddy Golf Day
Wake up early and head out to the nearest golf course for a sunrise round of golf with your dad.
If dad is an avid golfer this is a great opportunity for him to pass down some pro golf knowledge or, if neither of you has played golf before, it could be the start of a new hobby for the both of you to share.
If hitting the golf course isn’t really dad’s scene, there is always mini-golf as an alternative and is often just as challenging as real golf and will guarantee some funny memories.
2. Bowling Madness
What better way to relax and have some competitive fun with dad than at a bowling alley?
Buy a couple of games and see who the bowling champion in the family is – the winner doesn’t have to pay for lunch!
If you’re not feeling up for bowling there is always pool or snooker. Pool tokens are cheaper allowing you to get in a few extra games. And, on the plus side, you can also play doubles so the whole family can be included in some competitive fun.
3. Fun with Fishing
Sunday mornings are great for fishing trips. Put together a picnic basket with all of dad’s favourite sarmies and snacks and head out to a fishable river or lake nearby and set up camp.
And the best part is that you can always grill up any fish that you catch – what a bonus!
Fishing trips always make for some great bonding opportunities so bring a camera, enjoy the snacks and put on some music while you wait for a nibble.
4. Backyard Barbeque and Games
Sometimes the only place that dad wants to be is at home with his family. If your dad is more of a home-dad, then put together a delicious barbeque, salads and some fun games for the family to play in the backyard.
Whether you’re playing put-put, volleyball, soccer or catch dad is sure to make the most of this fun bonding experience in the comfort of his home.
5. Heading to the Mountains
There is nothing more peaceful than a family hike – or cycle – through the mountains. Search for local hiking/biking trails, pack a lunch and set out for a day of nature and relaxation.
If dad is an avid outdoorsman, this creates some excellent bird watching or nature photography opportunities. Perhaps if there is a river nearby you can even include some kayaking or canoeing into the equation!
6. Make Something Together
We know how handy dads are – they are the plumbers, contractors, electricians and technicians all wrapped into one. If this sounds like your dad then we have the perfect Father’s Day activity for you: make something together.
Whether you build a birdhouse, varnish a table or even help him organise his workspace dad will enjoy parting with some of his ‘handy knowledge’ so that one day you can teach the same nifty tips to your own children.
7. Movie Day In
When the weather is miserable, the house is cold and mom has just taken a warm pot of soup off the stove there is only one option: movie day!
Choose some of dad’s favourite movies and huddle up together in the lounge to watch them all with some hot chocolate, coffee or soup.
Sometimes Sundays call for lazy days indoors and – when the weather is bad – even more so!
8. Brunch it Out
It’s Father’s Day so dad deserves to do some sleeping in giving you the perfect opportunity to head into the kitchen and cook up a storm.
Pancakes, waffles, bacon, eggs, cereals, sausages, toast and French toast – whatever dad’s favourite brunch foods are they are sure to be on the menu for a classic Father’s Day brunch.
Or, if you aren’t quite a savant around the kitchen just yet, a hot cup of coffee and a brunch at a nearby restaurant is sure to be appreciated just as much.
9. Find a Hobby Together
Is dad on the lookout for a new hobby to keep himself busy?
Use this Father’s Day as an opportunity to explore some new and exciting hobbies that dad might take interest in.
There’s plenty of hobbies to choose from but why not start with go-karting, if dad is into sports or even martial arts?
Have a chat with dad and find out what some of his bucket list items are and use that information to find a hobby that the two of you can share and enjoy together.
10. Gaming Day
If dad is a gamer dad then there is no shortage of gift opportunities from new games to merchandise and everything in between but sometimes all that dad is looking for is a player two.
Grab a controller, choose a game and enjoy some ‘game time’ with dad.
And if your dad isn’t into gaming, then use Father’s Day to explore some games that he might be interested in – anytime is a good time to start a new hobby!
