An Bord Bainne – The Irish Dairy Board – was established on the 17th May, 1961 by the then Minister for Agriculture, Mr Paddy Smith. This followed the passing into law of the Dairy Produce Marketing Act 1961, five months earlier when it was signed by President De Valera.
